Home is a place of belonging, a place of eternal meaning, and it represents a taste of the new home, waiting for those who have been bought with a price. Until then, we have been commissioned to reach the world, starting with the particular geography where God has planted us. I love Tricias emphasis on using our homes, millions of his embassies around the world, to welcome others to taste the love of God. Its a reflection of the many interactions Jesus had in homes. I hope this book will give women a vision for home-based God-expectant influence in their neighborhoods and communities (Barbara Rainey, FamilyLife & Ever Thine Home). Sometimes the most intimidating place to take the gospel is across the streetto your family, friends, and neighbors. In this book, Tricia shares the simple and practical tools she uses to invite those living in her Jerusalem into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Make disciples of all nationsincluding your ownbecomes less daunting using the advice Tricia offers in the pages of Simple Parties, Significant Impact (Kurt Nelson, president and CEO of East-West Ministries International). Jesus said, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation (Mark 16:15). Did you know this can be done in the comfort of your own home? The whole creation will come right to your doorstep if you ask them. Learn how to host a simple party with a significant impact. You will be glad you did!

An in-depth analysis of the struggle to consolidate new and fragile democracies—available in two paperback volumes for course use. The global trend that Samuel P. Huntington has dubbed the "third wave" of democratization has seen more than 60 countries experience democratic transitions since 1974. While these countries have succeeded in bringing down authoritarian regimes and replacing them with freely elected governments, few of them can as yet be considered stable democracies. Most remain engaged in the struggle to consolidate their new and fragile democratic institutions. Consolidating the Third Wave Democracies provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges that they face. Consolidating the Third Wave Democracies is available in two paperback volumes, each introduced by the editors and organized for convenient course use. The first paperback volume, Themes and Perspectives, addresses issues of institutional design, civil-military relations, civil society, and economic development. It brings together some of the world's foremost scholars of democratization, including Robert A. Dahl, Samuel P. Huntington, Juan J. Linz, Guillermo O'Donnell, Adam Przeworski, Philippe C. Schmitter, and Alfred Stepan. The second paperback volume, Regional Challenges, focuses on developments in Southern Europe, Latin America, Russia, and East Asia, particularly Taiwan and China. It contains essays by leading regional experts, including Yun-han Chu, P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, Thomas B. Gold, Michael McFaul, Andrew J. Nathan, and Hung-mao Tien.

Sometime during the first two decades of the 20th century, the participation of the American electorate began its plummet; voter turnouts fell in each election after record heights in 1890. Kornbluh (history, Michigan State U.) examines mass political behavior in 20 successive national elections, arguing that the rapid decline of electoral participation was gradual and a result of fundamental social change, a conclusion maintained by the author to be at odds with previous literature focusing on discrete political events to explain voter demobilization. "Reviewed here is global research on how 13 types of Voluntary Membership Associations (MAs) have significantly or substantially had global impacts on human history, societies, and life. Such outcomes have occurred especially in the past 200+ years since the Industrial Revolution circa 1800 CE, and its accompanying Organizational Revolution. Emphasized are longer-term, historical, and societal or multinational impacts of MAs, rather than more micro-level (individual) or meso-level (organizational) outcomes. MAs are distinctively structured, with power coming from the membership, not top-down. The author has characterized MAs as the dark matter of the nonprofit/third sector, using an astrophysical metaphor. Astrophysicists have shown that most physical matter in the universe is dark in the sense of being unseen, not stars or planets."--Page 4 of cover

This book studies the impact of cleavages on electoral choices. Based on a case study of Switzerland, it analyses how cleavages divide voters into voting blocs and how this influences Swiss voting behaviour and the Swiss party system. The first part examines the development of salient cleavages such as religion, social class, rural-urban, and language between 1971 and 2011. Behavioural changes among voters and changes in the size of social groups are explored as explanatory factors for the decline of cleavage voting. The second part proposes a contextual perspective analysis of the current impact of cleavages using both individual and contextual factors. These factors are also combined to examine interaction effects between the individual and the context. Finally, the third part analyses whether the impact of cleavages has harmonised across different contexts (Swiss cantons) over time.
