Swimmer By: Brett Reetz A Door County (WI) native and washed-up Chicago Detective, Lloyd Jornt decided it might be best to return to the Peninsula to drink the remainder of his failed life away. Unfortunately, a series of bizarre watery deaths interrupt Lloyd’s destructive binge when his step-brother, the Sheriff, enlists his help to stop the killings. In Lloyd’s quest for answers, he meets a twelve-year-old Todd Grafton- a deaf boy who spends his evenings with his telescope studying the night sky over Green Bay. When, one night, Todd spots someone he thinks is a super hero, he decides that he wants to be a night swimmer, too. Together, Lloyd and Todd discover that pristine Chamber’s Island may be the home to an ancient evil: the Swimming Man.

Following an increase in research on elasmobranchs due to the plight of sharks in today’s oceans, this volume compares elasmobranchs to other groups of fish, highlights areas of interest for future research, and offers perspective on future problems. Covering measurements and lab-and-field based studies of large pelagic sharks, this volume is a natural addition to the renowned Fish Physiology series. Provides needed comprehensive content on the physiology of elasmobranchs Offers a systems approach between structure and interaction with the environment and internal physiology Contains contributions by leading experts in their respective fields, under the guidance of internationally recognized and highly respected editors Highlights areas of interest for future research, including perspective on future problems

No doubt, there are many ways to practice "good" medicine, whatever this may be. Forty years ago the history, observation, and clinical examina tion of a patient led to diagnosis and therapy. Since then, we have learned a great deal about the biochemical and physiologic processes in the human body and about the pathogenetic mechanisms by which they are disturbed and lead to disease. Today, the basis of clinical judgment and patient management is the understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms of disease. This concise and basic text of pathophysiology introduces the medical student to the basic pathophysiologic mechanisms. Each chapter begins with a short outline of the general physiologic and biochemical principles of an organ, a system, or a metabolic process; their possible derangements are described, with empha sis on the more important and more frequently occurring diseases. Although the primary purpose is to convey a basic understanding of clinical medicine to first-year medical students, many students have used this book as a convenient reference up to and after graduation.
