All over the world, there are individuals who want to go to work-who are excited to go in on Mondays. They love their jobs because the environment they work in is free of fear and emotional toxicity; and they are unimpeded and able to focus on their work. They do their part to help achieve organizational goals. I work with people like this everyday, and I help them create the kind of workplace they have always wanted-one that delivers a sense of belonging, personal satisfaction, and job enrichment. I make this happen by working with business leaders who know that businesses and organizations are only as good as the people in them, and they recognize the importance of winning the hearts and minds of their people. I build high-performance teams: in businesses, government agencies, churches, non-profits, and even families. I have witnessed astounding personal, financial, and organizational growth accelerate when the environment is free of fear and supercharged with Synergy Team Power. This book is for all employees-from entry level all the way up to the executive suite-who are looking for a way to create a meaningful workplace that delivers continuous job satisfaction. It demonstrates that adopting the value of teamwork and service, along with the importance of treating fellow workers with courtesy and respect-as one does with a customer-makes all the difference. You will find helpful stories, examples, anecdotes, and checklists that have grown out of many years of building and working with high-performance business teams. These stories are about real people who have found a way to create satisfying, fun jobs, and at the same time, build safe, secure, and highly-profitable work environments. There are 5 Synergy Team Power success habits: Building Trust Right Mental Attitude (R.M.A.) Make It Fun Be a "First-Giver" Be a Synergist Within each of the success habit chapters, I have sprinkled humorous and relevant examples, quotes, and anecdotes to make your reading experience pleasurable and meaningful. My vision is that you will find a special message that resonates with you on a personal and professional level, and that it helps you recognize the important role you and all of us play in creating emotionally secure, profitable work environments. My larger vision is that as more and more of us recognize the value of Synergy and its profound benefits, we will work together to expand its application to build stronger families, better schools, profitable businesses, safe cities, and peaceful nations.

This volume critically evaluates more than a century of empirical research on the effectiveness of small, task-performing groups, and offers a fresh look at the costs and benefits of collaborative work arrangements. The central question taken up by this book is whether -- and under what conditions -- interaction among group members leads to better performance than would otherwise be achieved simply by combining the separate efforts of an equal number of people who work independently. This question is considered with respect to a range of tasks (idea-generation, problem solving, judgment, and decision-making) and from several different process perspectives (learning and memory, motivation, and member diversity). As a framework for assessing the empirical literature, the book introduces the concept of 'synergy.' Synergy refers to an objective gain in performance that is attributable to group interaction. Further, it distinguishes between weak and strong synergy, which are performance gains of different magnitude. The book highlights the currently available empirical evidence for both weak and strong synergy, identifies the conditions that seem necessary to produce each, and suggests where the search for synergy might best be directed in the future. The book is at once a high-level introduction to the field, a review of the field's history, and a scholarly critique of the current state-of-the-art. As such, it is essential reading for graduate students, advanced undergraduate students, and researchers interested in group dynamics generally -- and small group performance in particular.

The 21st century is now almost upon us and, whilst this represents a somewhat artificial boundary, it provides an opportunity for reflection upon the changes, and the accelerating pace of change, in our social, economic, and natural environments. These changes and their effects are profound, not least in terms of access to information and communication technologies, at once global in effect and manifest locally. These changes and their consequent demands are reflected in the theme of this volume: Synergy Matters, proceedings from the 6th UK Systems Society International Conference.

She’s built a firewall around her heart. He’s determined to crack the code. Hailstorms come with the territory in Austin, Texas. Having a hot guy to shelter with is a less frequent phenomenon. It must be the shock – or the hailstorm to the temple – that makes cautious technology consultant Alicia ask Jackson out. Minutes later, still reeling from his kind rejection, she walks into the biggest meeting of her career. And it’s just her luck that *he’s* there - Jackson, the sexy charmer. But he’s no longer charming; he’s madder than a rattlesnake that Alicia’s there to take over his project. But it’s Alicia’s job to turn around the project, even if Jackson thwarts her every move. Even if their late nights in the office are more about chemistry than code. Even when she teaches him to two-step and he kisses her under the stars. If anyone finds out Alicia and Jackson are more than colleagues, it’ll threaten not only the project but both their careers. He’s a genius. She’s the boss. Can they work together – without falling in love? Fall for these two rival programmers in this steamy, slow-burn, laugh-out-loud enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy featuring a straitlaced single mom, a tech genius who hides a secret under a playboy exterior, and way too much tequila. This case study, written for undergraduate students, is based on generational differences in a metropolitan children's museum. Employees from various generations experience communication challenges, differing values systems, disparate approaches to work, and interpersonal conflict. Learners assume different generation roles and address these issues in a team setting. By the end of the case, learners explore the preferred communication methods and styles to use to be effectively heard and understood in each generation; identify the work ethic characteristics of each generation in today's workplace; respond to generational differences that affect workplace performance and productivity; and collaborate with others to create and sustain a work environment that capitalizes on generational diversity. This module requires three 50-minute classes to complete.
