A wrongfully imprisoned storyteller spins stories from his jail cell that just might have the power to save him—and take down a corrupt government. Arrested on accusations of witchcraft and treason, Chant finds himself trapped in a cold, filthy jail cell in a foreign land. With only his advocate, the unhelpful and uninterested Consanza, he quickly finds himself cast as a bargaining chip in a brewing battle between the five rulers of this small, backwards, and petty nation. Or, at least, that's how he would tell the story. In truth, Chant has little idea of what is happening outside the walls of his cell, but he must quickly start to unravel the puzzle of his imprisonment before they execute him for his alleged crimes. But Chant is no witch—he is a member of a rare and obscure order of wandering storytellers. With no country to call his home, and no people to claim as his own, all Chant has is his wits and his apprentice, a lad more interested in wooing handsome shepherds than learning the ways of the world. And yet, he has one great power: his stories in the ears of the rulers determined to prosecute him for betraying a nation he knows next to nothing about. The tales he tells will topple the Queens of Nuryevet and just maybe, save his life.

Perhaps the least understood and most misused elements in astrology today are the fixed stars. Current practice is to consider the stars as no more than mini-manifestations of the planets whose nature they are presumed to hold. The locations of the stars projected onto the ecliptic are then considered valid points for aspectual relationships. No special significance is attributed to the non-zodiacal constellations; nor is a star's location within a constellation given any weight whatsoever. Finally, modern astrology places no distinction on the use of the stars and constellations in genethliacal astrology and the other branches of the ancient art. In this book the natures of the fixed stars and constellations as known by the classicists are discussed in detail. Methods of delineating the fixed stars are indicated, with special emphasis on the applications to judicial astrology. Included are chapters on the nature of the fixed stars; the northern, southern and zodiacal constellations; genethliacal applications of the fixed stars; judicial astrology; and three appendices with information on mathematics and rulership and a complete listing of the fixed stars.

Molly O'Connor's life was not an easy one. With six children and a husband who earned what he could as casual farmhand, fisherman, or drover, it was a constant struggle to keep her family fed and raised to be respectable. Of all her children, Breda - the Bright One - was closest to her heart. As, one by one, her other children left Kilbally, Kathleen and Kieran to the Church, Moira to marriage, the twins to war, so Breda, the youngest, was the one who stayed close to her parents. Breda never wanted to leave the West of Ireland. She though Kilbally was the most beautiful place in the world. Then tragedy struck the O'Connors and the structure of their family life was irrevocably changed. Reeling from unhappiness and humiliation, Breda decided to make a new life for herself - in Yorkshire with her Aunt Josie's family. There she was to discover a totally different world from the one she had left behind, with new people and new challenges for the future.

The spiritual dimensions in the fantastic works of both firmly established and newer writers--including such talents as Marion Zimmer Bradley, Alice Walker, Patricia Kennealy, Octavia Butler, Toni Morrison and Ntozake Shange--are examined in this book. The author links their fantastic novels to actual currents within the feminist spirituality movement, addressing the genre's use of goddess worship, psychic phenomena, and reverence for the earth. Special emphasis is given to both the struggle to provide an alternative to men-centered experience and to the need to articulate ways in which feminists can achieve personal and social power.
