A lighthearted look at our feline friends and their most amusing (and infuriating) habits. Over 140 entries delightfully illustrate a wealth of cat breeds – from the attention-loving Siamese to the playful Exotic Shorthair – followed by an extensive cat dictionary, which finally defines those characteristic behaviours and cat-related incidents that all cat lovers will recognise. British Shorthair – an old-fashioned sort of Brit. Reserved, mild-tempered, quiet and faithful. Probably the sort of cat that would host a very exclusive and polite cocktail party. Most often comes in a delightful blue hue. Foldex – although it sounds like a trademarked name for a hi-tech folding machine, this is in fact a folded-ear breed that was first developed in the 1990s in Quebec, Canada. Their wide eyes and thick, fluffy tail is complemented by a cheerful and affectionate personality. Catanchored – a cat that is unafraid of anything and remains impassive and immovable even when spotted by a dog (much to the dog’s confusion and alarm).

Cats have a way of walking into our lives and making themselves right at home. No cat lover can imagine life without a feline presence -- even if it is only as fleeting as the occasional conversation with a neighbourhood stray. Meow: A book of happiness for cat lovers is a compendium of delightful quotes that capture the essence of this fascination. Some are by famous people (Mark Twain, Jean Cocteau, Ernest Hemingway), others not; some are philosophical, others lighthearted -- all are memorable. Accompanied by beautiful photography, and presented in a high-quality gift format, this is a collection of quotes to treasure.

An in-depth biographical study, rare essays by and about Wain, and 60 of his best-loved illustrations make this a must-have for fans of the cult cat artistWith a wealth of Wain's most famous drawings, as well as rare writings by and about the artist, this is an ideal book for both Wain fans and cat-lovers in general. Louis Wain drew cats: cats playing poker, boxing, playing cricket, and doing almost any human activity. His pictures are widely available today as decorative motifs and popular prints, but in his day, the man dubbed the "Hogarth of cat life" was a celebrity who sold thousands of drawings and paintings to an insatiable public. From humble beginnings, Wain became a hugely successful popular artist, creating the Louis Wain Annual series and the first ever animated cat character, later acknowledged as the inspiration for Mickey Mouse. But after he lost his fortune, he lost his mind. He ended up in a provincial asylum, sketching psychedelic cats that were more fiend-like than feline. When his fate was discovered in 1925, the Royal Family and the Prime Minister joined a national campaign to rescue Wain. The artist never entirely recovered his health, but he was eventually moved to a better home, where he continued to draw and paint almost until his death in 1939.
