The Collected Works Of Witness Lee 1984 Volume 1

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January 1 through December 16, 1984. One message included in this volume was given in 1991. In 1984 Brother Lee spoke eighty-two messages that were published in Life-study of Mark, Life-study of Luke, and Life-study of Acts. These Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. After spending the first few days of 1984 in Irving, Texas, Brother Lee returned to Anaheim, California, and remained there until the end of February. He then traveled to Brazil and spent most of March ministering there. At the end of March he returned from Brazil to Anaheim and remained there until the middle of April. During the last two weeks in April, Brother Lee traveled to Stuttgart, Germany, and on his return to the United States he visited New York City; Washington, D.C.; and Newton, Massachusetts, during the month of May. At the end of May he ministered in Irving, and in the first few days in June he visited Denver, Colorado. At the end of June Brother Lee returned to Anaheim and remained there until the first week in October. From the middle of October until the middle of November, Brother Lee traveled to the Far East and ministered in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; and Quezon City, Philippines. He returned to Anaheim for a few days in the middle of November, and near the end of November he traveled to Irving, where he remained until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into fifteen sections, as follows: 1. Four messages given in Irving, Texas, on January 1 and December 2, 8, and 16. These messages are included in this volume under the title Miscellaneous Messages Given in Irving. 2. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 7 and 14. These messages are included in this volume under the title Living Christ and Pursuing the Truth for the Building Up of the Church. 3. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 8 through March 25. These messages are included in this volume under the title Being Built Up in the Truth and Growing in Life for the Spread of the Lord's Testimony. 4. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 16 through November 19. These messages are included in this volume under the title Bringing the Saints into the Lord's Up-to-date Vision and Move in His Recovery. 5. Ten messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 3 through August 18, 1984, and in Alhambra, California, on April 21, 1991. These messages were translated from Chinese and previously published in a book entitled The Four Crucial Elements of the Bible--Christ, the Spirit, Life, and the Church. They are included in this volume under the same title. 6. A message given to a group of co-workers from Taiwan in Anaheim, California, on February 20, 1984. This message was translated from Chinese and has been included in this volume under the title Finding Principles in Our Study of the Bible and the Subjective Line of Life in the Bible. 7. A message given in Brazil on March 3. This message is included in this volume under the title Being Faithful to Be Constituted with the Truth and Experience Life for the Spread of the Lord's Recovery. 8. A message given in Brazil on March 11. It was translated from Chinese and is included in this volume under the title One Stream and a Broad Highway. 9. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on April 15 and August 8. These messages were translated from Chinese and are included in this volume under the title The Chinese-speaking Meeting and Putting Off Oldness. 10. A message given in New York City on May 6. This message is included in this volume under the title Christ as the Embodiment of God Becoming the Consummation of the Triune God and Our Attitude toward the Believers. 11. A message given in Newton, Massachusetts, on May 10. This message is included in this volume under the title Ministering the Truth, Life, and the Gospel to All Men. 12. Four messages given in a Chinese-speaking conference in New York City on May 11 through 13. They were previously published in a book entitled Christ Revealed in the New Testament and are included in this volume under the same title. 13. A message given in Irving, Texas, on May 28. This message is included in this volume under the title A Word of Recommendation concerning the Life-study Messages and the Footnotes in the New Testament Recovery Version. 14. Five messages given in Denver, Colorado, on June 2 and 3. The records for two of these messages are missing. The remaining three messages are included in this volume under the title Practicing the Genuine Church Life in Spirit, in Love, and in the Truth. 15. Four messages given in Anaheim, California, on June 23 and 25. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Teachers' Training and are included in this volume under the same title.

The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. Seventeen letters written from August 27, 1932, through July 15, 1935. These letters were published in the periodical Collection of Newsletters in November 1933 through July 1935 and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Three articles written from July through September 1934. These articles were published in the periodical The Glad Tidings and are included in this volume under the title The Glad Tidings, 1934. 3. Thirty-two articles and reports published in the periodical The Christian from 1934 through 1940. These articles are included in this volume under the same title. 4. A message given in an unknown location in 1936. This message is included in this volume under the title Concerning the Human Living of the Believers. 5. Twelve letters written from December 9, 1937, through June 5, 1939. These letters were published in the periodical The Open Door in January 1938 through June 5, 1939, and are included in this volume under the same title.

Regarding Brother Witness Lee's travel and his ministry, 1958 can be divided into approximately three periods. The first period is the three months from January through March, during which Brother Lee was in Manila, Philippines, in January and returned to Taipei, Taiwan, via Hong Kong in February. He then conducted three conferences and a few co-workers' meetings in March. The second period consists of the next six months, from the beginning of April through mid October. During this period Brother Lee traveled around the world, passing through Tokyo, Osaka, and Shenyu in Japan (April 8 through 22); Honolulu, San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Toronto in the United States and Canada (April 23 through August 1); London, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Zurich, Geneva, Rome, and Athens in Europe (August 2 through September 21); Beirut, Jerusalem, and Tehran in the Middle East (September 22 through 28); Karachi, Rangoon (now Yangon), and Bangkok in South and Southeast Asia (September 29 through October 3); and Hong Kong (October 4 through 15) before returning to Taiwan on October 16. The third period consists of the last three months in Taiwan, during which time he conducted various conferences. For the first period we have records of Brother Lee's meeting with district responsible ones in Hong Kong on February 12. The three conferences that Brother Lee conducted in Taiwan in March were on the subject of enjoying God. This is the first time that Brother Lee released the light concerning this subject. In addition to the three conferences, Brother Lee conducted a number of meetings with serving ones on March 4 through 8. He also gave a series of messages on reading the Bible and another series of messages on the vision of the tree of life. The messages given during this period are included in volume 1 of this set. For the second period we have records of Brother Lee's speaking in Tokyo in April in a conference on enjoying God and records of a few private talks. There are two records of his speaking in New York and four records of his speaking in Denmark. In addition, he wrote long letters that reveal some of the meetings that took place during his trip. These letters are published in Church News in volume 1 of this set. After his visits to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, he returned to Hong Kong in October. There he held two weeks of conferences on God's building. In the third period, upon returning to Taiwan in October, Brother Lee conducted a conference on God's building, with meetings in both the morning and the evening. In addition, he conducted various meetings with serving ones. After the conference, on Mondays and Wednesdays he gave additional messages on the subject of God's building. Almost all the messages given in the second and third periods of 1958 are included in volume 2 of this set. Some of his speaking in October and November is included in volume 1 in the section entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1958, volume 1, contains messages, personal letters, and reports by Brother Witness Lee from February through December 1958. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1958 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. A message given in Hong Kong on February 12. This message is included in this section under the title Building and Perfecting. 2. A short speaking in an unknown location in February or March. This speaking is included in this volume under the title "The Son of Man." 3. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Reading the Bible to See Its True Meaning and Central Thought and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Thirteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March, October, and November. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Eighteen personal letters and reports that appeared in Issue Nos. 1 through 18 of Church News from April 6 through December 18. They are included in this volume under the same title. 6. Twenty-one messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled How to Enjoy God and How to Practice the Enjoyment of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 7. Six messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Vision of the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and are included in this volume under the same title.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984, volume 4, contains messages and fellowship given by Brother Witness Lee on July 9 through November 15, 1984, and on July 31 through August 2, 1986. At the end of June Brother Lee returned from Denver, Colorado, to Anaheim, California, and remained there until the first week in October. From the middle of October until the middle of November, Brother Lee traveled to the Far East and ministered in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; and Quezon City, Philippines. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. Four messages given in Anaheim, California, on July 29 through August 26, 1984. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Jubilee and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Twenty-one messages given in Anaheim, California, on July 9, 1984, and in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 27 through November 15, 1984. They were previously published in a nineteen-chapter book entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord's Recovery, Book 3: The Future of the Lord's Recovery and the Building Up of the Organic Service and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. A message given in Anaheim, California, on August 11, 1984. This message was translated from Chinese and is included in this volume under the title Concerning the Truth and Experience of the Triune God. 4. Seven messages given in Chinese in Anaheim, California, on September 7 through 28, 1984, and on July 31 through August 2, 1986. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Rising Up to Preach the Gospel and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. A message given in Irvine, California, on September 16, 1984. This message is included in this volume under the title Being Renewed Day by Day by Enjoying God in Christ as the Renewing Element. 6. A message given in Tokyo, Japan, on October 17, 1984. This message is included in this volume under the title Fellowship concerning the Lord's Move on Earth and the Need of the Lord's Move in Japan. 7. Six messages given in Seoul, South Korea, on October 20 through 24, 1984. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Vital Factors for the Recovery of the Church Life and are included in this volume under the same title.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from February 6 through 18, 1984. During those two weeks Brother Lee held an international training for elders and responsible brothers in Anaheim, California. The messages that were released at that time were published in four volumes, which are included in this volume of The Collected Works of Witness Lee. The contents of this volume are divided into four sections, as follows: 1. Six messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 6 and 7. These messages were previously published in a seven-chapter book entitled Elders' Training, Book 1: The Ministry of the New Testament and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Twelve messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 8 through 11. These messages were previously published in a thirteen-chapter book entitled Elders' Training, Book 2: The Vision of the Lord's Recovery and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Nine messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 13 through 15. These messages were previously published in a thirteen-chapter book entitled Elders' Training, Book 3: The Way to Carry Out the Vision and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Nine messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 16 through 18. These messages were previously published in an eleven-chapter book entitled Elders' Training, Book 4: Other Crucial Matters concerning the Practice of the Lord's Recovery and are included in this volume under the same title.

On October 5, 1959, Brother Witness Lee began a service training in Taipei, Taiwan, that ended on January 22, 1960. A follow-up training began on February 16, 1960, and lasted until April 2. During that time Brother Lee released messages on the elders' management of the church and continued his synopsis of the books of the Bible with synopses of Numbers and Deuteronomy. After the training ended on April 2, he began another training for young people on April 26, which was intended to last five weeks; however, after the second week Brother Lee became ill. He rested until June 28, at which time he began a five-day co-workers' series of meetings with about twenty brothers (see Church News in volume 1 of this set). After these meetings he held various weekly training meetings with co-workers. His speaking in these meetings included the subjects of the sufficiency, pursuit, and learning of the Lord's serving ones and the law of revival. On September 27 he left for the United States for the second time. He remained mainly in New York and conducted meetings on God's building and held a four-day conference on the ground of the church. He traveled to San Francisco on December 1. On December 5 he went to Los Angeles and stayed there until December 8, at which time he returned to the Far East, passing through Japan, where he remained from December 10 through 19. There is no record of his speaking in San Francisco or in Japan. On December 19 Brother Lee returned to Taipei and remained there until the end of the year. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1960, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee and personal notes, letters, and reports concerning his ministry from December 1959 through November 23, 1960. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1960 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into three sections, as follows: 1. Eleven issues of the periodical Church News published in January through December 1960. These issues contain personal letters and reports written in Taipei, Taiwan, and New York City from December 1959 through November 23, 1960. They are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Thirty-five messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on February 16 through March 17, 1960, as a continuation of a previous training that ended on January 22. These messages are included in this volume under the title Synopsis of Numbers. 3. Nineteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on March 18 through April 1, 1960. These messages are included in this volume under the title Synopsis of Deuteronomy.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1971, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from early January through April 11, 1971. In 1971 Brother Lee spoke twenty-four messages that constituted The Visions of Ezekiel, which were later published in Life-study of Ezekiel. These Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. From the middle of October 1970 until the middle of January 1971, Brother Lee was in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Then he visited Manila, Philippines; Singapore; Surabaya, Indonesia; and Melbourne, Australia, before arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 1. Brother Lee traveled to San Francisco on March 17 and then went to Los Angeles at the beginning of April, where he remained until the end of May. The contents of this volume are divided into six sections, as follows: 1. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in January. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Shepherding the Church and Perfecting the Young People. 2. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, from January 5 through 9. They were previously published in a book entitled The Meaning of Human Life and a Proper Consecration. 3. Three messages given in an unknown city and in Singapore from the end of January to the beginning of February. The date and place of the first message are uncertain. The last two messages were given in Singapore in February. They are part of an eight-day conference held in Singapore at the end of January and the beginning of February. The records of only two of the messages given during that conference have been located. The three messages in this section are included in this volume under the title The Abolishing of Ordinances and the Making of Peace. 4. Twelve messages given in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on March 12 through 16. These messages are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ for the Church as the New Man, the Body of Christ, and the Bride of Christ. 5. Five messages given in San Francisco, California, on March 19 through 21. They are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ for the Building Up of the Church as the Body of Christ and the New Man. 6. Seven messages given in Los Angeles, California, on April 8 through 11. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Life for the Preaching of the High Gospel.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984, volume 5, contains messages and fellowship given by Brother Witness Lee on October 22 through December 20, 1984, on January 13 through December 7, 1985, and on June 2, 1986. From the middle of October until the middle of November, Brother Lee traveled to the Far East and ministered in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; and Quezon City, Philippines. He returned to Anaheim, California, for a few days in the middle of November, and near the end of November he traveled to Irving, Texas, where he remained until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into ten sections, as follows: 1. Three messages given in Seoul, South Korea, on October 22 through 24, 1984. These messages are included in this volume under the title Fellowship concerning the Practice of the Church Life. 2. Five messages given in Chinese in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 27 through November 4, 1984. They were translated and were previously published in a book entitled The All-inclusiveness and Unlimitedness of Christ and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Five messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 29 through November 2, 1984. These messages were translated from Chinese and were previously published in a book entitled Guidelines for the Propagation of the Lord's Recovery and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Thirteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, three of which were given on November 4 and 15, 1984, nine of which were given on January 13 through December 7, 1985, and one of which was given on June 2, 1986.
