A major survey of Pop Art from private collections. Published on the occasion of an exhibition of the same title, The Pop Object is the most comprehensive survey of Pop Art to be organized by theme and historical precedents, with such classic works as Andy Warhol’s Brillo Soap Pads, Robert Arneson’s Oreo Cookie Jar, Claes Oldenburg’s Pie à la Mode, Roy Lichtenstein’s Black Flowers, and Wayne Thiebaud’s Gumball Machine. With more than ninety color illustrations, this large-format book brings together the most important examples of works by artists Jasper Johns, Jim Dine, Marisol, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Wayne Thiebaud, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and many others, from the 1960s to the present. The still life has often been the stepchild to landscape, history, and figurative painting. By examining themes like food and drink, household objects, flowers, and body parts, noted art historian John Wilmerding emphasizes Pop’s playfulness and brings the history of the movement right up to date.

C# is a modern, object-oriented language that enables programmers to quickly build a wide range of applications for the new Microsoft .NET platform, which provides tools and services that fully exploit both computing and communications. Learning to Program the Object-Oriented Way with C# presents an introductory guide to this hot topic. The authors use a practice-based approach supported by lots of examples of increasing complexity and frequent graded exercises, which are available online. -Introduces an approach to learning programming based on the use of object orientation from day one. -Includes many worked examples, the code and solution to which are available online. -The book is being technically reviewed and approved by Microsoft. -One of the first introductory textbooks on C# and object orientation - based on the final release version at the beginning of 2002. -Suitable for courses in introductory programming.

This book delivers the latest developments in object technology and their impact in computing systems re-engineering. Object-oriented programming is here shown to provide support for constructing large scale systems that are cheaply built and with reusable components, adaptable to changing requirements and use efficient and cost-effective techniques.Internationally recognised authorities from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK and the USA here record their research and development work on the industrial techniques and structured object-oriented methodologies in forward and reverse engineering of computing systems. This book takes stock of progress of that work showing its promise and feasibility, and how its structured technology can overcome the limitations of forward engineering methods used in industry. Forward methods are focused in the domain of reverse engineering to implement a high level of specification for existing software. The book contains the selected, quintessential content of the first UK Colloquium on Object Technology and Systems Re-Engineering held at Oxford University in 1998. The conference was sponsored by British Telecom Laboratories, EMSI limited and the OOSP Specialised Group of The British Computer Society. Rationale Software engineering aims to develop software by using approaches which en able large and complex program suites to be developed in a systematic way. However, it is well known that it is difficult to obtain the level of assurance of correctness required for safety critical software using old fashioned program ming techniques. The level of safety required becomes particularly high in software which is to function without a break for long periods of time, since the software cannot be restarted and errors can accumulate. Consequently programming for mission critical systems, for example, needs to address the requirements of correctness with particular care. In the search for techniques for making software cheaper and more reliable, two important but largely independent influences have been visible in recent years. These are: • Object Technology • Formal Methods First, it has become evident that objects are, and will remain an important concept in software. Experimental languages of the 1970's introduced various concepts of package, cluster, module, etc. giving concrete expression to the importance of modularity and encapsulation, the construction of software com ponents hiding their state representations and algorithmic mechanisms from users, exporting only those features (mainly the procedure calling mechanisms) which were needed in order to use the objects. This gives the software com ponents a level of abstraction, separating the view of what a module does for the system from the details of how it does them.
