Hence the understanding of the role of the Trinity is very crucial in knowing how salvation really applied to the life of a believer and the Christian faith. For I perceived that the reason why several Christians make little value of their Christian life is due to lack of clear and proper understanding of the works of the Trinity in their Salvation experiences and probably because the transaction was not properly done. These may be the same reason why most Christians are living a life of hypocrisy and void of power, because they understood stricken the role of the Trinity in the Economy of their salvation. Hence they don’t appropriate the efficacy of the power of Trinity in their salvation bargain. No wonder so many Christians resolved to other sources of power in times of crisis and difficulties. I perceived that the reason why several Christians take little value to their Christian life is the lack of proper understanding of the works of the Trinity in their salvation experiences, and probably because the transaction was not properly done. These may be the reason why most Christians are living a defeated and hypocritical life. Because they understood stricken the role of the individual Persons of the Trinity in the economy of their salvation; hence they don’t appropriate the efficacy of the power of the Trinity in their salvation bargains. No wander, they resolved to other sources of power in their times of crisis and difficulties. The fact on the importance of the doctrine of salvation was elucidated by the Article Bible.org as they said that “Soteriology, the doctrine of salvation, must be the grandest theme in the Scriptures. It embraces all of time as well as eternity past and future. It relates in one way or another to all of mankind, without exception. It even has ramifications in the sphere of the angels. It is the theme of both the Old and New Testaments. It is personal, national, and cosmic”. But in all its beauty, we don’t seem to understand and appreciate the role the individual Persons of the Godhead play in our salvation economy.

Recent years have seen a resurgence of interest in the doctrine of the Trinity, following a long period in which it was considered irrelevant to the rest of theology and to the challenge of Christian life. In this book, David Coffey claims that this resurgence is caused by a renewed appreciation of the fact that salvation itself has a Trinitarian structure. He argues that we cannot understand salvation without a solid understanding of the Trinity. Coffey considers the full range of issues surrounding this central doctrine of Christian faith. In this important book, Chung-Hyun Baik explores one of the central issues in contemporary Trinitarian theology: the relationship between the economic and immanent Trinity. Engaging a wide variety of Trinitarian theologians and contemporary philosophers, Baik offers a vital analysis of the ontological and epistemological issues that bear on a proper understanding of the doctrine of the Trinity. Noting that the meaning of mystery in the New Testament is Jesus Christ himself, Baik argues that, in order to rightly approach the question of the relationship between the immanent and the economic Trinity, it is necessary to understand the mystery of the divine being as centered in Christ himself. Moreover, Christ is not merely a device for resolving epistemological or ontological tensions, but rather the fullness of the divine mystery, and as such, must be determinative of all such theological and philosophical questions.

This book attempts to reconceive the Trinity. Its thesis is that the Father beget the Son in or by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit proceeds from the Father as the one in whom the Son is begotten. While some contemporary authors have proposed a similar view, no-one has done so in such a complete and systematic fashion. Reconceiving the Trinity in this way has a number of advantages. Firstly, it is more in keeping with the New Testament proclamation, and thus it more closely aligns the economic and immanent Trinity. Secondly, it overcomes the inadequacies of traditional trinitarian formulations, in both Eastern and Western Churches, which incorporates erroneous philosophical presuppositions. Thirdly, it offers a resolution to the filioque controversy, which may be acceptable to both the Latin and the Orthodox Churches. This book is, therefore, highly ecumenical in importance. Fourthly, it gives a more active and essential role to the Holy Spirit within the immanent Trinity, something that has been lacking throughout the trinitarian tradition. The true subjectivity or personality of the Holy Spirit is more clearly defined. This book brings out the spiritual and practical importance of the Trinity for the everyday lives of Christians. It defines more clearly how Christians are grafted into the very life of the Trinity: how they come to relate to the persons of the Trinity in a manner analogous to the way they relate to one another.
