Anxious that current interest in and discussion of worship are too much preoccupied with mere mechanics, Dr. Carson joined with an international group of scholars to produce this final volume of the five Tyndale Consultations. First, a biblical theology of worship is explored by the Japanese, Yoshiaki Hattori, and the Australian, David Peterson. From this foundation, there follow reflections upon the practice of worship in nine different contexts: denominational (including Anglicanism and Lutheranism), cultural (South America and the Two Thirds World), and also the charismatic movement and student groups. In the final part, the Croat theologian Miroslav Volf concludes that worship is Òthe outworking of God-centredness in individual and corporate experience'. The opinions expressed, although at times in disagreement with one another, are an indication of the wealth of diversity within the worldwide church.

THE SECRET OF ADORATION is a tightly woven coming of age page turner with well-defined characters, edge of your seat excitement and plot twists that the reader won't anticipate but make perfect sense once revealed. The story begins with a death in 1964, two murders in 1972, and ends with a jolting climax in 1997. The years in-between are filled with heartbreak, hope, love, great sex, deception, pain and, ultimately, emotional resurrection. It's 1964 in Philadelphia, PA. Just nine years old, lonely and bullied, Robert "Buster" Black already yearns for the love and affection of the opposite sex. When he asks his father if girls will ever want him his father laughs and promises that he'll tell him the secret of making women love him, the secret of adoration. But his father is killed later that day and the secret is never shared. Buster grows into manhood, survives being forced to participate in a brutal murder and joins the air force to escape Philadelphia. There, he meets Catherine, a beautiful young white woman from Oklahoma who is also fleeing an unpleasant past. They quickly become lovers and marriage and parenthood follow. Even without knowing the secret, Buster lives the life he dreamed of as a child. But a fateful infidelity shatters that life and he spends years emotionally adrift, eventually retiring from the air force and, with limited options, returning to Philadelphia where he begins a doomed affair with Alise, the beautiful but hard-edged wife of David, his childhood best friend. David has become a powerful, ruthless, amoral politician who is determined to be Philadelphia's first black mayor and will let nothing or no one stand in his way, even if murder is what it takes to accomplish that goal. The affair with Alise ends ugly for Buster but he soon meets and quickly beds Deidre. She is smart, beautiful and lonely but still shackled to her own horrific past and unwilling to commit to Buster no matter what he promises or offers. Through his own greed, Buster also becomes unwillingly embroiled in Philadelphia politics and finds his life and livelihood threatened as David engages in Machiavellian plots relating to the long ago murder in which he also took part, a secret that, if revealed, will destroy his quest to become mayor and his dream of being the first black president. It's a secret that is worth more to him than any life, including Buster's. Before long, Buster's life is a lot more complicated as he battles racism at work, desperately tries to win Deidre's heart and mind, deals with the killing of an unarmed close friend by a cop and schemes to protect himself from whatever David has in store for him. The final chapters reveal the truths of all characters, laying bare their motivations and showing them as they really are as the story rushes towards an unforgettable ending, one that will surely make the reader exclaim "Wow! I sure didn't see that coming."

This second volume in Nancy's The Deconstruction of Christianity explores the stance or bearing that would be appropriate for us now, in the wake of the dis-enclosure of religion and the retreat of God: that of adoration. Adoration is stretched out toward things, but without phenomenological intention. In our present historical time, we have come to see relation itself as the divine. The address and exclamation--the salut!--that constitutes adoration celebrates this relation: both the relation among all beings that the world is and what is beyond relation, the outside of the world that opens us in the midst of the world. A major contribution to the contemporary philosophy of religion, Adoration clarifies and builds upon not only Dis-Enclosure, the first volume in this project, but also Nancy's other previous writings on sense, the world, and the singular plurality of being.
