Rheumatologic diseases are highly associated with clinical symptoms of the skin, nails, and mucosal membranes. This book provides the practicing rheumatologist with a rapid, easy to consult reference to help interpret the nature of these cutaneous lesions and then quickly decide upon the appropriate follow-up tests. Utilizing an abundance of informative photographs, it contains all of the essential information needed for early diagnosis and treatment. This comprehensive guide properly orients the practitioner within the challenging world of rheumatologic disorders of the skin and gives insight into when consultation with a dermatologist is advisable.

The so-called 'connective tissue disorders' hold a particular fascination to both the rheumatologist and the dermatologist, and the diagnosis of, sometimes subtle, changes in the skin can often be difficult. This book aims to give a succinctaccount ofcutaneous manifestations of the major connective tissue diseases, including the cutaneous side effects of anti-rheumatic therapy, and the main diagnostic and prognostic features and guides to their management. Although the book is intended primarily for dermatologists and rheumatologists, it will also be of value to general physicians and general practitioners. Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Hardening of the skin is one of the most visible manifestations of the disease. It’s estimated that about 300,000 Americans have scleroderma. This book represents the proceedings of a conference, Rheumaderm, that was held in December 1997. The meeting was a dialogue between the specialties of Rheumatology and Dermatology, exploring and discussing areas of common interest. The aim was to present problems common to both specialties, thereby emphasising the team approach to such problems and helping to combine various skills.
