The Treasury of Catholic Wisdom is a Catholic library in miniature, a one-volume microcosm of what the Church's great minds have thought and said since the apostolic age. Hardon, S.J., holds a master's degree in philosophy from Loyola University and a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome. He is the author of The Catholic Catechism and many other books. Fr. Hardon is also a founder of the Catholic Home Study Institute, a correspondence school which operates under pontifical approval.

Thinking with the mind of the Church, Mr. Hudson has mined the riches of faith and reason with which the Church has blessed civilization and with which She has shone forth the splendor of truth across two millennia. It was G. K. Chesterton who quipped that the Church is the one continual institution to have been thinking about thinking for two thousand years, and it is for this reason, as Chesterton also quipped, that She saves us from the ignominy of ignorance which makes us children of our own time and slaves of the Zeitgeist. It is She who enables us to think outside the temporal box so that we can perceive the time.

Like all of us I have been given a number of "gold coins" to invest by and for our Savior Jesus Christ. This manual on our faith and the current state of our Church is I pray a multiplication and proper use of the gifts loaned to me. Foremost is the urgent need for an Orthodox, compelling, easy to read comprehensive source for all those who desire to teach and share our faith with our family and in our Church. It is an ideal Catechesis resource. Working part-time with a strong sense of dedication, it has taken about five years to complete this work. My mentor, Father John A. Hardon S.J. (Deceased: may he rest in peace.) was fond of reminding us that " we can't teach what we ourselves don't know or understand."
