This is a book about my life. It's a story the Lord wants out there. It's about my struggles and how I overcame them through adversity with all the challenges I have. It's about my four miracles the Lord did for me. It's a story about how God can work in your life if you let him. This happened so many years ago, but I have never forgotten it. Every day, the Lord has inspired me to write this book for the last year and a half. So here it is. I hope this story helps whoever is reading it and I believe it will if you pray and ask the Lord to help you. The story will show how good the Lord can be. We only need to ask. In the beginning of our life, no one knows what kind of life we are going to live. We're born in an unexpected world. We can't pick and choose the life we want. We are destined how we are when we're born with the type of family we live with and everything around us. As we grow up, it's up to us as to what we are going to be. This whole life is a test to see if we're going to follow the Lord or not. It's up to you if you want to be good or bad. You decide your own outcome. Jesus gave us that right for deep down in our hearts we know right from wrong. God's laws are written within us. Our own conscience accuses us. (Rom. 2:13) Jesus died on the cross over 2,000 years ago. Yes, he did, and he is alive today. I believe in his Word because there are so many lessons we can learn from the Bible. It is real. Pick it up and read it. Don't let that Bible sit anymore in dust at your home. Pick it up, and have an open heart when you do. You could just say a simple prayer to yourself before you open the Bible. Say teach me, Lord, your word. Have a sincere attitude and an open mind. The Bible is meant for everyone in this whole world.

This book provides a cross-cultural analysis of how religious symbols function from a theological and philosophical perspective. Showing how religious symbols can be true in various qualified senses, Neville presents a theory of religious symbolism in the American pragmatic tradition extending and elaborating Tillich's claim that religious symbols participate in the divine realities to which they refer and yet must be broken in order not to be idolatrous or demonic. The Truth of Broken Symbols offers a theory of religious symbolism treating reference, meaning, and interpretation, and discussing different functions of religious symbols in theological, practical, and devotional contexts. It shows that religious symbols are to be properly understood as true or false and that symbol-systems such as myths, theologies, or liturgical symbols are to be used to engage divine realities while internally exhibiting semiotic structures of reference, meaning, and interpretation.

In this "raucous, moving, and necessary" story by a Pulitzer Prize finalist (San Francisco Chronicle), the De La Cruzes, a family on the Mexican-American border, celebrate two of their most beloved relatives during a joyous and bittersweet weekend. "All we do, mija, is love. Love is the answer. Nothing stops it. Not borders. Not death." In his final days, beloved and ailing patriarch Miguel Angel de La Cruz, affectionately called Big Angel, has summoned his entire clan for one last legendary birthday party. But as the party approaches, his mother, nearly one hundred, dies, transforming the weekend into a farewell doubleheader. Among the guests is Big Angel's half brother, known as Little Angel, who must reckon with the truth that although he shares a father with his siblings, he has not, as a half gringo, shared a life. Across two bittersweet days in their San Diego neighborhood, the revelers mingle among the palm trees and cacti, celebrating the lives of Big Angel and his mother, and recounting the many inspiring tales that have passed into family lore, the acts both ordinary and heroic that brought these citizens to a fraught and sublime country and allowed them to flourish in the land they have come to call home. Teeming with brilliance and humor, authentic at every turn, The House of Broken Angels is Luis Alberto Urrea at his best, and cements his reputation as a storyteller of the first rank. "Epic . . .
