If you thought Sherlock Holmes was dead—think again . . . Sherlock Holmes’s fatal plunge over the Reichenbach Falls during his struggle with his archenemy, Moriarty, has been widely reported. But Holmes escaped and is still alive. In his immediate circle, only Holmes’s brother, the lethargic genius Mycroft, knows of his survival. Even Dr. Watson thinks the great detective is gone. But among his enemies, Sebastian Moran, Moriarty’s chief henchman, knows of Holmes’s probable escape and waits for their inevitable meeting. From 1891 to 1894, Holmes wanders through Asia alone, armed only with his physical strength and endurance and his revered cold logic and rationality . . . For Holmes’s fans throughout the world, these stories fill an enigmatic gap, the cause of so much speculation in the great detective’s career. “Mischievous, cunning and magnetically fascinating, Sherlock Holmes’ lost meanderings in the Far East are richly rewarding for Holmes fans, armchair travellers and historians alike. Ted Riccardi conjures up the quirky, beloved detective’s missing years solving intoxicatingly labyrinthine puzzles amidst the devilry of The Great Game.” —Isabella Tree, award-winning author and conservationist

.0000000000The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes contains Conan Doyle's last twelve stories about his great fictional detective. Compared with earlier collections these tales are darker, exploring such themes as treachery, mutilation and the terrible consequences of infidelity, and containing such gothic touches as a blood-sucking vampire and crypts at midnight. With an Afterword by David Stuart Davies, a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, and an authority on Sherlock Holmes. He has written the Afterwords for all the Collector's Library Holmes volumes.

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle - is the final set of twelve (out of a total of fifty-six) Sherlock Holmes short stories by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle first published in the Strand Magazine between October 1921 and April 1927. Title of collection: The first British edition of the collection, published by John Murray, and the first American edition, published by George H. Doran Co., were both published in June 1927. However, they had slightly different titles. The title of the British collection was The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (hyphenated "Case-Book"), whereas the title of the American edition was The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes ("Case Book" as two words). Further confusing the issue of the title, some later publishers released the collection under the title The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes ("Casebook" as a single word). Contents: The first edition of The Case-Book, published by John Murray in 1927, does not present the stories in the order in which they were published:[2] 1 The Adventure of the Illustrious Client 2 The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier 3 The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone 4 The Adventure of the Three Gables 5 The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire 6 The Adventure of the Three Garridebs 7 The Problem of Thor Bridge 8 The Adventure of the Creeping Man 9 The Adventure of the Lion's Mane 10 The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger 11 The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place 12 The Adventure of the Retired Colourman

Sherlock Holmes. Doyle made his observation in the 1920s, when the detective had already been thrilling readers for 40 years, and he modestly attributed his hero's success to "the patience and loyalty of the British public." Nearly a century later, the fictional sleuth continues to captivate imaginations around the world and to inspire modern-day reinterpretations.By the twentieth century Doyle had moved on to other literary endeavors but the public demand for further adventures of the Baker Street sleuth proved irresistible. The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes is the last such work to be regarded as canon, a collection of stories written before other writers claimed the character and his associates as their own. Here are a dozen tales of passion, revenge, greed, and murder--the final adventures of the great detective, as recounted by the master storyteller himself.
