Transforming Nations After The Covid 19 Pandemic

In 2020, the world is in the throes of the COVID-19 global pandemic—an epidemic the likes of which humankind has not experienced for decades. This book speaks to common and fundamental underlying issues that national communities face from a humanitarian and planetary systems perspective. From the globalization initiatives of the last decades, a dynamic and interconnected new planetary system order is emerging. This book underscores the need for decent, ethical, healthy, and just societies that enable individuals to reach full human potential. It explores the future directions of 12 Key Strategic Influencer (KSI) nations through 18 systemic factors that will shape the contours of future planetary governance this century. Finally, it proposes a nonconventional systems paradigm to humanitarian challenges.

The coronavirus pandemic has upended local, national, and global food systems, and put the Sustainable Development Goals further out of reach. But lessons from the world’s response to the pandemic can help address future shocks and contribute to food system change. In the 2021 Global Food Policy Report, IFPRI researchers and other food policy experts explore the impacts of the pandemic and government policy responses, particularly for the poor and disadvantaged, and consider what this means for transforming our food systems to be healthy, resilient, efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. Chapters in the report look at balancing health and economic policies, promoting healthy diets and nutrition, strengthening social protection policies and inclusion, integrating natural resource protection into food sector policies, and enhancing the contribution of the private sector. Regional sections look at the diverse experiences around the world, and a special section on finance looks at innovative ways of funding food system transformation. Critical questions addressed include: - Who felt the greatest impact from falling incomes and food system disruptions caused by the pandemic? - How can countries find an effective balance among health, economic, and social policies in the face of crisis? - How did lockdowns affect diet quality and quantity in rural and urban areas? - Do national social protection systems such as cash transfers have the capacity to protect poor and vulnerable groups in a global crisis? - Can better integration of agricultural and ecosystem polices help prevent the next pandemic? - How did companies accelerate ongoing trends in digitalization and integration to keep food supply chains moving? - What different challenges did the pandemic spark in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and how did these regions respond?

Current social, economic, and environmental challenges presented by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals may be partially attained by digitalization and sustainable practices diffusion. The antecedents, occurrences, and consequences of this process are currently under investigation, but the big challenge is to get a systemic view. This book attempts to bring such a view into focus. This phenomenon has triggeredthe construction of an array of discourse around these issues, which all needto be properly conceptualized to allow for the development of contemporary studiesin International Relations. This edited book attempts to cover it all. This book is a compilation of papers presented at the 2nd International Postgraduate Student Conference (IPGSC) organized by the Department of International Relations, Universitas Indonesia. The conference,with the theme of “Transformation of International Relations during Covid-19 Pandemic”provided a venue for IR scholars to discuss the changestothe dynamics and practicesfound in the realm of International Relations during the pandemic. The discussion wasdivided into three parts: International Security, International Political Economy, and Transnational Society. From these discussions, the book highlights three key points. Firstly, that the pandemichas undeniablycreated a bigger and more strategic space for the role and contribution of non-state actors. Secondly, ithas, at the same time, also caused an increased tendencytowards state centrism and imbalanced power relations among states as the traditional actors in IR.
