The army marine field is a little known part of the army by both the civilians and the many soldiers. People think of the combat arms (infantry, armor, and artillery) and while they are the heart of the army, there are other branches without which the combat arms would cease to be an effective fighting force. Arguably, the most important element ensuring that the combat arms have beans and bullets is the Transportation Corps. The motto of the Transportation Corps is Spearhead of Logistics because Nothing happens until something moves. In my years as an army mariner, I have had many interesting and sometimes humorous experiences. My experiences are nothing compared with those of other army mariners. This book is not just about my experiences, but of other sea-going sailors as well. Some of the stories are hilarious, and I believe all are interesting. The book is divided into three elements. The heart of the book is the Sea Tales, but Mr. Richard Killblane, the Army Transportation Corps historian graciously provided me with many fascinating interviews of army mariners conducted by personnel in his office. The histories of many army watercraft companies are the final elements of the book and provides the reader with the differences of watercraft units and their missions. I have found my own experience to be very interesting and rewarding. I recall one day working on the engine room logbook, sitting at the galley table and glancing out of the door at the water in Skiffs Creek and thinking of how fortunate I was to be sitting there and not working in an office. I have had a wide variety of duties in my twenty-two year career, but nothing compares with working on the water. I can relate to what Samuel Clemmons wrote in his book, Life on the Mississippi, For I loved the profession far better than any I have followed since. I feel that says it all. I am now retired, but I have the memories of my experiences.

Following the success of his #1 New York Times bestseller Make Your Bed, which has sold over one million copies, Admiral William H. McRaven is back with amazing stories of bravery and heroism during his career as a Navy SEAL and commander of America's Special Operations Forces. Admiral William H. McRaven is a part of American military history, having been involved in some of the most famous missions in recent memory, including the capture of Saddam Hussein, the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips, and the raid to kill Osama bin Laden. Sea Stories begins in 1963 at a French Officers' Club in France, where Allied officers and their wives gathered to have drinks and tell stories about their adventures during World War II-the place where a young Bill McRaven learned the value of a good story. Sea Stories is an unforgettable look back on one man's incredible life, from childhood days sneaking into high-security military sites to a day job of hunting terrorists and rescuing hostages. Action-packed, humorous, and full of valuable life lessons like those exemplified in McRaven's bestselling Make Your Bed, Sea Stories is a remarkable memoir from one of America's most accomplished leaders.

Bold Sea Stories 2 is a new book from an award-winning marine journalist who shares the best boating, sailing, and adventure stories from his long career. Most of Marlin Bree's collection of 26 real-life tales are set on the world's largest freshwater sea, Lake Superior. With 60 photos, illustrations, and charts, the author takes readers to fascinating corners of the Sweetwater Sea and elsewhere to plunge them into adventure, exploration, and (mostly) triumph. In one chapter, a solo sailor crossing the North Atlantic in his 10-foot plywood sailboat is overtaken by a deadly storm, while in another tale, a "down home" crew in an ordinary sailboats attempts a first crossing of the iceberg-guarded Northwest Passage. From Bold Sea Stories 2's pages arise inspiring tales of bold sea captains and brave seamen---and of course, high seas, wild storms, and shipwrecks. These are authentic accounts of extraordinary voyages, single-handed sailing feats, and great boats---some doomed forever to rest beneath the waves. Bree's recurring themes are the why's of sailing---love of wilderness, the joy of boating, the magic of discovering and (almost always) mastering the unknown, and the search for peace on the water. Published by Marlor Press, Bold Sea Stories 3 is the second in Bree's Bold Sea Stories series.

This book is not about combat and war. Nor is it about crime and punishment.Rather, this is a collection of short stories about people; Navy people for the most part, but others too. Mainly, they were people with whom the writer came in contact while providing physical security, law enforcement, antiterrorism, emergency management, and some principal protective services in and for the United States Navy. This is dedicated to the U.S. Navy's Master-at-Arms, Physical Security Technicians (Warrant Officers), Physical Security Officers, Marines, and Navy civilian security personnel, whose mission it is to protect military and civilian personnel and the material resources used to safeguard our nation and our national interests both in the United States and abroad. Their stories remain largely untold.

This unique collection of "The Complete Sea Tales of Joseph Conrad" has been designed and formatted to the highest digital standards. Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), was a Polish author who wrote in English after settling in England. Conrad is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English, though he did not speak the language fluently until he was in his twenties. He wrote stories and novels, often with a nautical setting, that depict trials of the human spirit in the midst of an indifferent universe. He was a master prose stylist who brought a distinctly non-English tragic sensibility into English literature.
