The author of the book, Darry Borisova, established the Andy and Aya Academy for Children from the Deaf Community in Bulgaria in 2017, where she works with deaf children and their families. Darry herself is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and a member of the Deaf community, raised with the challenges of Deaf people in Bulgaria. She is also a qualified Deaf therapist and Sign Language interpreter. All proceeds of the book sales go towards supporting the development of the Academy and its efforts to offer a wider range of high quality affordable educational opportunities for deaf children in Bulgaria. The book series is a way to raise awareness about deafness and acceptance, to promote the cause for affordable deaf education, and to subsidize the costs of the Academy by socially oriented entrepreneurship.
