In 2019, Saul Ed Sinek penned what would become the classic editorial Why we should not stop at just remaking Metal Gear Solid on The Snake Soup, the Hideo Kojima fansite founded in 2003. The editorial was influential and groundbreaking at the time, ushering in a respectable defense to what was mostly seen as a corporate, consumerist approach to the creation of new works. This is a remake of the classic, made relevant to a new audience through a stunning next generation hardcover format with all-new breathtaking illustrations and awesome new readability features which include epigraphs, table of contents, and preface. Classic Sinek, new Soup!

This book, based on revised papers originally delivered at the VII International Systemic Functional Workshop in Valencia in 1995, explores some of the choices open to speakers and writers for the expression of meaning in different socio-cultural contexts. Many of the papers draw their inspiration from models of language developed by Michael Halliday and in particular recent theories of variation in relation to texts and genres explored by Halliday and his followers. There is an emphasis on the interdependence and interaction of linguistic choices across sentence boundaries and speaking turns, and also a consistent focus across many papers on the importance of lexicogrammar in the construction of texts. Several papers examine the differences between native-speaker and non-native-speaker choices in speech and writing. The volume also contributes to our understanding of differences and similarities between spoken and written varieties of English and of the central significance of interpersonal functions in the communication of messages. By drawing on naturally-occurring data collected on a range of genres as diverse as philosophy articles, scientific research papers, emergency telephone calls, and casual conversation, contributors both refine descriptions of the relations between text and context and offer numerous new insights and analyses.

This book explores the video game Metal Gear Solid V’s exploration of trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through a careful analysis of its thematic elements and characters. It also considers the game’s complex take on post-9/11 history. Metal Gear Solid V consists of two interrelated titles, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes is examined as a post-9/11 narrative exploring America’s use of Guantanamo Bay and the extraordinary rendition program as tools in the War on Terror. The Phantom Pain is examined as a work exploring post-9/11 in trauma, especially in returning soldiers. The characters appearing in both games are given substantial consideration and analysis as embodiments of different forms of PTSD and trauma. This book appeals especially to those interested in video game study, to those who are enthusiasts of video games, and those interested in post-9/11 narratives.

Beware of sodium? No need to forego baked goodies with this unusual baking book by the author of the No-Salt, Lowest Sodium Diet Cookbook. Donald Gazzaniga, diagnosed with congestive heart failure, was headed for a heart transplant. Urged by his doctor to keep his sodium intake "under 1,500 to 2,000 milligrams a day," Don headed for the kitchen and went to work devising recipes for delicious low-sodium dishes that added up to less than 500 milligrams daily. The results? Don's name has been removed from the transplant list, and Don shared his recipes with the world in The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook. Readers of that first book have kept in touch with Don via his Web site, and have written him letters asking for more. What they most often ask for is a book with more bread recipes, more recipes for cakes and cookies and muffins and tea breads, more of all those great baked things—in short, for the book you now hold in your hands. Don teamed up with his daughter, professional nutritionist Dr. Jeannie Gazzaniga Moloo, to fill The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Baking Book with recipes that are as healthy and delicious as possible. As in the previous book, they tell you just how much sodium is in each ingredient. They provide satisfactory substitutes for flavorings that patients with congestive heart failure and high blood pressure shouldn't have. All easy to make and delicious to eat. Go for it!
