Escaping from Bad Decisions presents a modern conceptual and mathematical framework of the decision-making process. By interpreting ordinal utility theory as normative analysis examined in view of rationality, it shows how decision-making under certainty, risk, and uncertainty can be better understood. It provides a critical examination of psychological models in multi-attribute decision-making, and evaluates the constitutive elements of "good" and "bad" decisions. Multi-attribute decision-making is analysed descriptively, based on the psychological model of decision-making and computer simulations of decision strategies. Finally, prescriptive examinations of multi-attribute decision-making are performed, supporting the argument that decision-making from a pluralistic perspective creates results that can help "escape" from bad decisions. This book will be of particular interest to graduate students and early career researchers in economics, decision-theory, behavioral economics, experimental economics, psychology, cognitive sciences, and decision neurosciences. Provides a comprehensive background to the phenomena of bad decisions, considered in their economic, psychological and cognitive aspects Reinterprets existing theories and phenomena and proposes a new overview of decision behaviors by integrating mathematical and psychological perspectives Adapts model-based techniques, such as mathematical model based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) using mathematical models of the decision process

Next Practice now trumps Best Practice. The Holy Grail that mammoth Fortune 500 companies, nimble start-ups and driven individuals eagerly seek in their quest for success. With norms hyper disrupted in the post-Covid economy and innovation waves getting shorter and quicker, the race to be first in innovation is now nail-bitingly intense. Design thinking, Blue Ocean, Working Backwards – there are innovation frameworks to fit every need and context.Yet it remains elusive. What if humans were simply not made to innovate? That our brains were designed to be efficient, not innovative, to ensure we survived as a species. In this surprisingly myth-busting book, Andreas Raharso debunks the assumption that human beings can continue thinking bigger and creating better as long as we have the right tools. Using research spanning from Nobel Laureate Herbert Simon’s findings, the latest in MIT cognitive science labs and Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman’s groundbreaking work on System 1 and System 2 of the human brain, he proves that we can innovate only if we are able to escape from System 1. In a clear step-by-step way, Dr. Raharso shows us how to unlock ourselves from System 1, and swiftly trail blaze with an avant-garde course of action to be the first, and the best, next big thing.

Under A Siena Sun: Doctors Without Borders has been Lucy Young’s life for the past four years. After being rescued from a conflict zone, she’s making a change from saving lives under gunfire to practising medicine in safe, serene Siena. Now treating wealthy patients at a private clinic, she's never felt less comfortable. She’s used to helping those in dire need – not those in need of a nip and tuck. Her turmoil grows when she encounters injured tennis star David Lorenzo. She’s soon falling for the sportsman but is she losing herself in this world of excess? All she’s ever wanted was to help the underprivileged, so can she stay in Siena at the clinic – with David? Second Chances in Chianti: Alice Butler starred in a successful US sitcom until tensions in the cast and crew caused the show to be cancelled. Now, five years later and working towards her dream job in art history, she’s called back for a revival of the show. It can only end in disaster, surely? Flown to a villa in Chianti to meet with the rest of the cast, Alice must decide if her future lies in Hollywood with her boyfriend, David, who laps up the star-studded company, or in Chianti with the mysterious Matt, who shies away from public attention? Secrets on the Italian Island: Anna’s job as a geologist takes her all over the world, including to the beautiful island of Elba. The island isn’t the only thing that’s gorgeous – she can’t believe her luck when she meets windsurfer Marco and sparks fly. But Anna must keep her role on Elba a secret to avoid upsetting the locals, which means lying to Marco. When her old friend Toby visits, Anna suddenly finds herself torn between the attentions of the two men. However, Anna’s not the only one keeping secrets. Is Marco being entirely honest with her? And why did Toby really come to visit? A fun and escapist romance series perfect for fans of Lucy Coleman, Trisha Ashley and Alex Brown. Praise for T.A. Williams ‘Let T.A. Are you ready for “a non-stop, nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride!” and the book called “the best of the three in the series”? In the dead of night, in a well-hidden cabin in Georgia, assassins wake Sin from a dead sleep. No one should have been able to find them. But with the door crashing open, it’s too late to think about what went wrong. Sin is just fast enough to get away. Lee isn’t. Unable to find him, Sin will have to do something she’s never done before: ask for help. She turns to the two most likely to be able to help, Nick Stelian and former FBI Agent Owen Dunham. While Owen’s hands are tied, Annika Dunham’s aren’t. She speaks the language and can get Sin inside the Kurev organization. While Nick and Owen form an uneasy alliance, Sin and Annika attempt to gain access using everything they can to free Lee. Right and wrong have long since been obliterated. And one of Lee’s kidnappers looks far too familiar: someone Sin is convinced should be long dead. The ties between families and enemies have become intricately tangled. To save Lee, Sin will have to bend and break bonds she didn’t even know existed. She’ll have to do it all while protecting a new secret . . . Justice is the third and final book in the Vendetta Trifecta by USA Today bestselling author A.J. Scudiere. While it can be read as a standalone, if you haven’t read the other two, you’ll want to be sure you get the whole trifecta!
