There is no shortage of African talent in European Football. In fact, a definitive list of the continent´s finest players in England´s top flight alone, for example, is extremely difficult to compile. Considering that talents such as Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Kolo Toure, Benni McCarthy, El-Hadji Diouf and Yakubu are all regularly on display week-in, week-out, African football fans have a multitude of riches to admire. Notwithstanding, Africa’s main concern must be towards capturing the coveted FIFA World Cup. THE BIG QUESTION IS: If Africa were that good in football why are they not showing it at the FIFA World Cup? So far no African team (country) has gone beyond the FIFA World Cup quarter final. Ghana and Cameroon have shown class at one time and once made it to the 8th stage though. Senegal and Nigeria have also once made it past the first 16th stage. No doubt, Africa has the football talents; let’s pray and hope her officials live up to the challenge in shaping their national team’s spirit to tangible results. Just getting to the 16th stage is not good enough for the euphoria. Africa can do better than merely showing up. I predict a great showing in South Africa 2010, at least to 8th stage, (the semi-finals) and winning in Brazil in 2014. The question then is: Which African country is ready to meet this challenge? The truth of the matter is any of the African teams is capable. This book looks at the history of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and goes on to feature Africa’s great footballers Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

George Weah is the current sitting president of Liberia, Africa's first modern democracy and the world's second constitutional democracy. Weah is also a former professional soccer player who played as a striker for several top European clubs. George Oppong Manneh Weah was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia. Before being discovered by French coach Arsene Wenger, Weah played for several local Liberian teams including the Liberian national team. With the helped of his French coach, in 1988 Weah delved into the French football arenas securing himself a permanent spot on A.S Monaco Club. In 1992, George Oppong Weah was transferred to Paris-Saint German and became the team's top goals scorer in the 1994-95 UEFA Champions League. After making his name as a domestic household name in France, Weah headed for the rough and tumble leagues in 1995 by joining the Italian team A.C. Milan. For the next four seasons, George Weah played extraordinarily well ensuring his team two championship titles. In 1995, while playing in the Italian club he was awarded the FIFA World, Europe, and Africa soccer Player of the year's awards all within the same year, he was also awarded the Ballon d'Or and Onze d'Or. In the process of winning those accolades, his country was engulfed in a brutal civil war and pollical carnage. To this date, George Oppong Manneh Weah is the only existing African soccer play to acquire all three awards in one year while carrying the weight of his country on his shoulders. After leaving the Italian soccer stage, he joined the tough English league by signing on to the Chelsea Football Club. In the Wake Of his retirement from professional soccer, George Manneh Weah entered politics and ended up losing two elections before coming back to win his third attempt in the General Elections in 2017 and was subsequently named the 25th President of Liberia for his party Congress for Democratic Change.
