With the implementation of the strategic plan “Made in China 2025” as its guideline and “the study of formulation of executive summary of innovative design in the manufacturing industry” as the main theme, this book provides an in-depth interpretation of innovative design from three perspectives – why, what and how. Chapter One, “The Necessity of Developing Innovative Design,” focuses on why innovative design should be developed, and Chapter Two, “Concept And Connotation of Innovative Design,” explains what innovative design is, while Chapters Three to Seven systematically and comprehensively discuss how to develop innovative design and how to improve innovative design skills in various contexts, including key industries, business, personnel training, platform building, and supporting measures. Lastly, Chapter Eight “Cases of Innovative Design” explores the value of innovative design and innovative design-driven industrial transformation. By analyzing several design-driven companies, such as China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, Haier Group and GAG Trumpchi, and the role of corporate innovative development as well as typical examples of major innovative design projects, it offers readers insights and inspiration.

This book details key trends involving the recent formation of scores of companies that build and launch small satellites or provide key components for small satellite constellations. The applications and usage are quite diverse and include student experiments, serious scientific experimentation, and totally new types of commercial constellations, particularly in telecommunications and remote sensing. The explosive growth in the design, manufacturing, and launch of small satellites is one of the most dynamic aspects in the area of space exploration and exploitation today. New commercial space companies such as Planet Labs, Sky Box, OneWeb, and LeoSat are now building and launching thousands of small satellites and cubesats into orbit. Small companies and big aerospace companies alike are getting into this exciting and interesting new business. This is a practical guide that provides advice to students, researchers, LEO satellite companies, and regulators wrestling with some of the new challenges that small satellites present as more and more companies and countries around the world enter the new small satellite arena.

This practical guide describes the administrative practices, policies, tools, and methods that promote better coordination, and shows how design-manufacturing integration helps a company reduce costs, improve product quality, and respond quickly to customer needs and demands. It examines the issues that have traditionally prevented design-manufacturing collaboration and reports on the findings of a four-year domestic plant study of the best strategies for promoting the integration of design and manufacturing.

The biggest challenge in any marketplace is uncertainty. The major changes taking place in world economies, politics, and demographics has raised market uncertainty to its highest level in the past 50 years. However, with new markets opening up in emerging and developing economies, the opportunities have never been better. To compete in this challenging atmosphere, product design/redesign and manufacturing must be integrated to produce better quality products faster and cheaper. Design Synthesis: Integrated Product and Manufacturing System Design provides a conceptual framework and methodologies to do just that. The book explains how to integrate innovative product design with the design of a batch manufacturing system. It covers the technical and social aspects of integration, presents research and best practices, and embeds integration within a framework of sustainable development. It covers the two methods for achieving design synthesis: integration and harmonisation. Product, manufacturing system, and social system architectures are integrated (united or combined to form a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts). The concurrent processes to design the architectures are harmonised (made compatible or coincident with one another). Wide in scope, the book supplies a multi-disciplinary perspective and an extensive discussion on how to maintain integrity during the design process. The authors present research and practices that are difficult or almost impossible to find. They describe the different types of system lifecycles and include guidelines on how to select the appropriate lifecycle for a specific design situation.

The book gives a systematic and detailed description of a new integrated product and process development approach for sheet metal manufacturing. Special attention is given to manufacturing that unites multidisciplinary competences of product design, material science, and production engineering, as well as mathematical optimization and computer based information technology. The case study of integral sheet metal structures is used by the authors to introduce the results related to the recent manufacturing technologies of linear flow splitting, bend splitting, and corresponding integrated process chains for sheet metal structures.
