A collection of essays accompanied by beautiful black-and-white photography from a diverse group of women on the moment they realized they were ready to fight for themselves—including Gloria Steinem, Lena Waithe, Joanna Gaines, Brandi Carlile, Beanie Feldstein, Cynthia Erivo, and Billie Jean King, among others. This powerful essay collection is a natural extension of the #MeToo movement, revealing the interior experience of women after they’ve inevitably been underestimated or hurt—the epiphany that the world is different than they thought it to be—and how they’ve used this knowledge to make change. In My Moment, Gloria Steinem tells the story of how a meeting with writer Terry Southern drew blood. Carol Burnett shares how CBS discouraged her from pursuing The Carol Burnett Show, because comedy variety shows were “a man’s game.” Joanna Gaines reveals how coming to New York City as a young woman helped her embrace her Korean heritage after enduring racist bullying as a child. Author Maggie Smith details a career crossroads when her boss declined her request to work from home after the birth of her daughter, leading her to quit and never look back. Over and over again, when told “no” these women said “yes” to themselves. This hugely inspiring, beautiful book will move people of all ages and make them feel less alone. More than the sum of its parts, My Moment is also a handbook for young women (or any woman) making their way through the world.

After completing my first book, I sat down and took notes of what was learned from what I did, and I must admit that I had learned an enormous amount of information about publishing. There were things to consider, like preparation of work, presentation of poetry, promotional strategies, etc., and still having Parkinson's Disease didn't do me any favours. But as I have always stated, you can't keep a champion down, and with my God being so gracious in more ways than I am able to acknowledge, I press on with my quest, to try and give as many people as I am able, a solid, even chance of salvation. My style of poetry may be somewhat unusual, maybe a bit out of the ordinary, but I have always tried to make my work as appealing as I can to as many as there are who love the simplicity of my work. I have tried to reduce the introductions of each poem to a minimum, but I still value the introductions, as they help to bring clarity to the point that I am attempting to put across, and therefore, very few misunderstandings and upsets are made. It must be emphasized that my poetry expresses mu point of view on subjects written about, how I actually see things from my angle, you may see differently, or may even disagree, but no matter what, I have designed my work specifically with the task of getting people to open up about the topics I write about, because there is nothing like a good, open debate to allow people the opportunity to communicate with each other, and so open up a door for an opportunity to present all with a chance of salvation. As I wrote in my last book, my primary objective is the saving of souls, and by presenting my work in such a simple way, I may assist people to realize that Jesus died for all, and so salvation is also for all who dare to believe.

This engaging and inspirational book by Carl Lentz, the rock star pastor of Hillsong NYC, shows us the way toward a more connected, spiritually-grounded, and fulfilled life. When you think of a Christian pastor, you probably don’t envision a tattooed thirty-something who wears a motorcycle jacket, listens to hip-hop music, references The Walking Dead and Black Lives Matter in his sermons, and every Sunday draws a standing-room only crowd to a venue normally used for rock concerts—in godless New York City, no less. But then you clearly have never met Carl Lentz. As lead pastor of the first United States branch of global megachurch Hillsong, the former college basketball player is on a mission to make Christianity accessible in the 21st century. In Own The Moment, he shares the unlikely and inspiring story of how he went from being an average teenager who couldn’t care less about church to leading one of the country’s fastest-growing congregations—how one day he is trying to convince a Virginia Beach 7-Eleven clerk to attend his service, and just a few years later he is baptizing a global music icon in an NBA player’s Manhattan bathtub. Amid such candid personal tales, Lentz also offers illuminating readings of Bible passages and practical tips on how to live as a person of faith in an increasingly materialistic world. How do you maintain your values—and pass them onto your children—in a society that worships money and sex and fame? How do you embrace your flaws in this Instagram era that exalts the appearance of perfection? How do you forget about “living the dream” and learn to embrace the beauty of your reality? These are just a few of the many important questions Lentz answers in Own The Moment—a powerful book that redefines not just Christianity but spirituality as a whole.

An inspiring story of resilience and bravery by the woman who became the linchpin of the case to bring Bill Cosby to justice. Andrea Constand did the right thing, not just for herself, but for more than sixty other women. When Bill Cosby was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault in 2018, the verdict sent shock waves around the globe. Some were outraged that a beloved icon of family values, the man dubbed "America's dad," had been accused, let alone convicted. Others were stunned because they had waited so long to see justice; in accusations going back decades, more than sixty women recounted how they'd been drugged, raped, and assaulted at Cosby's hands. Andrea Constand is just one of these women, but her case could still be criminally prosecuted. Constand's legal marathon required her to endure an excruciating civil suit, and two harrowing criminal trials. It was her deep sense of personal and social responsibility, fostered by her close-knit immigrant family and values earned through team sports, that gave her the courage to testify at the criminal trial--something she agreed to do not for herself, but for the more than sixty other women whose stories would never be told in court. Ultimately, Constand's testimony brought a powerful man to account. Cosby spent nearly three years in prison before his conviction was overturned on a procedural technicality in June 2021. In The Moment, Constand opens up about the emotional and spiritual work she did to recover from the assault and the psychological regimen she developed to strengthen herself. She also gained a new understanding of the resiliency of human spirit, and the affirming knowledge that stepping up and doing the right thing, even when the outcome is uncertain, is the surest path to true healing. From the woman who has been called "the true hero of #MeToo," The Moment is a memoir about the moment a life changes, as hers did when she was assaulted; about the moment, nearly a decade later, when she stood up for victims without a voice and put herself through an arduous criminal trial; and about the cultural moment, signified by the #MeToo movement, that made justice and accountability possible. The first thing I was taught in my creative writing class was to write what you know. Well, I know the struggle, addiction, alcoholism, failure, fear, hell, hope, faith, love, victory, and joy. And I know them all well! There are two people who have been most influential in my life. The first being Jesus Christ and proverbs 3:5-6—“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.” The second being Vince Lombardi and his quote, “Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.” Wow! Now that’s a dynamic duo!

Madge Cohen does not regret her marriage to a man nearly twice her age, but looks forward to the day she is able to remarry. Young and lively, Madge was forced to marry Peter Cohen, a man nearly old enough to be her grandfather. While his wealth affords Madge new and greatly appreciated privileges, she finds Mr. Cohen to be boring. While Madge dreams of all the exciting things she could do with a younger husband, she decides to study music, so she can channel her unspent energy into something other than daydreams. Though Madge is forced to wait for love, she is happy to help find it for her friends, especially Lance, Mr. Cohen’s protégé. Determined to watch over Lance to ensure he does not make any costly mistakes, Madge and Lance grow to be close friends who support each other without conditions. However, when Lance becomes fascinated with Miss. Shore, a mysterious and blunt woman, Madge has her doubts. After Lance finds Miss Shore homeless and alone, but oddly stoic, he asks Madge to help her, hoping to get to know Miss Shore better. As a stubborn woman, Madge has a difficult time discarding her original ill impression of Miss Shore. Still, she agrees to help Lance grow closer to her, inviting Miss Shore to stay in the Cohen manor for a time. As the arrangement unfolds, Madge becomes increasingly concerned about the mysterious woman, who seems to be completely haunted by a dark event in her past.
