Zvi Mark uncovers previously unknown and never-before-discussed aspects of Rabbi Nachman’s personal spiritual world. The first section of the book, Revelation, explores Rabbi Nachman’s spiritual revelations, personal trials and spiritual experiments. Among the topics discussed is the powerful “Story of the Bread,” wherein Rabbi Nachman receives the Torah as did Moses on Mount Sinai– a story that was kept secret for 200 years. The second section of the book, Rectification, is dedicated to the rituals of rectification that Rabbi Nachman established. These are, principally, the universal rectification, the rectification for a nocturnal emission and the rectification to be performed during pilgrimage to his grave. In this context, the secret story, “The Story of the Armor,” is discussed. The book ends with a colorful description of Bratzlav Hasidism in the 21st century.

Love 'em and leave 'em. That's always been Apate's motto. The Olympian goddess of trickery doesn't have time for entanglements, romantic or otherwise. And she sure as hell doesn't have time for regret. But when Thurston University student Siobhan Elliot goes missing and the human cops start sniffing around, Apate's dubious past catches up with her. Now it's only a matter of time until Jimmy, her latest conquest—who also happens to be Siobhan's ex—finds out it’s her fault. To cover her tracks, Apate pays a visit to the Elliots, using her powers of illusion to pose as their daughter and convince them everything’s fine. Lying is easy. Confronting the consequences of her actions, however, will prove to be much harder than Apate expected. To find her redemption, Apate knows it’s time to come clean. But the truth could cost her the only love she’s ever known.

What is the meaning of life? Modern professional philosophy has largely renounced the attempt to answer this question and has restricted itself to the pursuit of more esoteric truths. Not so David Norton. Following in the footsteps of Plato and Aristotle, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, Jung and Maslow, he sets forth a distinctive vision of the individual's search for his place in the scheme of things. Norton's theory of individualism is rooted in the eudaimonistic ethics of the Creeks, who viewed each person as innately possessing a unique potential it was his destiny to fulfill. Very much the same idea resurfaced in modern times with the British idealists and Continental existentialists. The author reviews these antecedents, showing how his theory differs from those of his predecessors. After a fascinating chapter on "The Stages of Life," Norton shows how the mature consciousness of one's destiny leads to direct, intimate knowledge of other persons, and how this in turn provides the basis for social morality. The conception of justice in which this theory culminates, rooted as it is in essential human differences, provides a challenging alternative to the much-discussed theories of Rawls and Nozick.
