Reflections on High-velocity IT is a companion to the ITIL®4 High-velocity IT book and training. These books and training are for practitioners in IT and service management who work in organizations that are adopting Lean, Agile, resilient, continuous and co-creational approaches to help them become more digitally enabled. They feel privileged to be able to contribute to the well-being and prosperity of digital service consumers, and are always looking for better ways of working.This companion publication is written from the insider's perspective of the lead editor of ITIL®4 High-velocity IT. He offers his thoughts on how to apply the High-velocity IT guidance, inspired by Taiichi Ohno: "You have to face your own difficulties and solve your problems yourself. Stop trying to borrow wisdom - think for yourself". He elaborates on some of his favourite parts of the book, giving background information and sharing the 'making of' story that involved fifty people across eighteen countries. The book also contains insights that did not make the final cut of the ITIL book due to constraints regarding the scope and size, and in some cases, because they emerged after the book had been published. Chapter 1 is about how to start applying the guidance in ITIL®4 High-velocity IT. Chapter 2 contains my comments on the positioning and structure of ITIL®4 High-velocity IT, and its relationship with other ITIL modules. Chapter 3 is about the content. My main aim is to point out parts of ITIL®4 High-velocity IT that I consider particularly valuable, and to qualify some of the content by sharing considerations that played a role. I also share content that did not make the cut due to constraints regarding the scope and size of ITIL®4 High-velocity IT. In some cases, I have added insights that emerged after the content had been written. Fifteen years ago NATO organised a conference entitled 'Ocean Acoustic Modelling'. Many of its participants were again present at this variability workshop. One such participant. in concluding his 1975 paper, quoted the following from a 1972 literature survey: ' ... history presents a sad lack of communications between acousticians and oceanographers' Have we done any better in the last 15 years? We believe so, but only moderately. There is still a massive underdeveloped potential for acousticians and oceanographers to make significant progress together. Currently, the two camps talk together insufficiently even to avoid simple misun derstandings. such as those in Table 1. This reference manual is designed to enable more geophysicists to appreciate static corrections, especially their limitations, their relationship with near-surface geology, and their impact on the quality of final interpreted sections. The book is addressed to those involved in data acquisition (datum static corrections), data processing (datum static and residual static corrections), and interpretation (the impact that unresolved static corrections, especially the long-wavelength or low-spatial-frequency component, have on the interpretation of the final section). Simple explanations of the underlying principles are included in an attempt to remove some of the mystique of static corrections. The principles involved are illustrated with simple models; these are supplemented with many data examples. This book details differences in approaches that must be considered among 2D, 3D, and crooked-line recordings as well as between P-wave and S-wave surveys. Static corrections are shown to be a simplified yet practical approach to modeling the effects of the near surface where a more correct wavefield or raypath-modeled method may not be efficiently undertaken. Chapters cover near-surface topography and geology; computation of datum static corrections; uphole surveys; refraction surveys; static corrections-limitations and effect on seismic data processes; residual static corrections; and interpretation aspects. An extensive index and a large list of references are included.

This volume presents an overview of the results of a European Union integrated program in which approximately two hundred earth scientists participated, drawn from all fields related to exploration. Two classes of modeling were addressed - geological modeling - the relationship between the conditions of sedimentation and the resulting reservoir conditions; and wave-propagation modeling - the investigation of wave-propagation through media of various degrees of complexity. Wave-propagation modeling was carried out either mathematically or physically with the most modern tools. An important aspect of the project was the inversion of seismic data, that is the determination of the parameters of the medium from observations. This problem is closely related to modeling since it is based on the inversion of the mathematical steps and often uses modeling for verification and updating. The geological data presents novel concepts with a coverage that is both broad in area and in discipline. The geophysical investigations are at the leading edge of current research. Although detailed results have been published separately by investigators, this volume is the only source of reference which summarises the results; but incorporating sufficient detail to enable the reader to follow the scientific reasoning.
