This book is a collection of Professor Chen Ning Yang's personally selected papers (1971-2012) supplemented by his commentaries. Its contents reflect the professor's changing interests after he reached age sixty.

Eugene Dynkin is a rare example of a contemporary mathematician who has achieved outstanding results in two quite different areas of research: algebra and probability. In both areas, his ideas constitute an essential part of modern mathematical knowledge and form a basis for further development. Although his last work in algebra was published in 1955, his contributions continue to influence current research in algebra and in the physics of elementary particles. This handsomely-bound volume presents selected papers written by S.A. Amitsur on various topics in algebra. The approximately 50 papers in the first volume deal with general ring theory and rings satisfying a polynomial identity. A sampling of topics includes algebras over infinite fields, commutative linear differential operators, a generalization of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz, and central embeddings in semi-simple rings. The order of the papers within the various sections is chronological and reflects the development of the fields during the second half of this century. In some cases, Thirring returned to problems decades later when the tools for their solution had ripened. Each section contains introductory comments by Thirring, outlining his motivation for the work at that time.

This invaluable volume contains a biography of Nobel laureate Norman F Ramsey as well as reprints and retrospective commentaries on 56 papers relating to spectroscopy with coherent radiation. The earliest papers describe his work with I I Rabi, developing the then new magnetic resonance method and its uses to measure magnetic moments of the different forms of hydrogen and to discover the deuteron electric quadrupole moment. Later papers include his invention of the method of coherent separated oscillatory fields, the development of the atomic hydrogen maser and the uses of these methods to measure properties of nucleons, nuclei, atoms and molecules and to test parity and time reversal symmetries. Other papers present the first successful theories of nuclear magnetic shielding, NMR chemical shifts, electron-coupled nuclear spin-spin interactions and negative absolute temperatures.

This selection of papers in the field of nonlinear optics contains reprints of original research, and general reviews written since 1960 up to the present. Brief comments by the author place each paper in a historical context of the evolution of nonlinear optics. Papers are selected from a more comprehensive bibliography either on the basis of their influence on subsequent developments or because they were originally published in journals or conference proceedings which are less easily accessible.
