Semantically Based Clinical Tcm Telemedicine Systems

Recent years have seen the development of two significant trends namely: the adoption of some Traditional Chinese Medicine Practices into mainstream Allopathic Western Medicine and the advent of the internet and broad band networks leading to an increased interest in the use of Telemedicine to deliver medical services. In this book, we see the convergence of these two trends leading to a semantically-based TCM Telemedicine system that utilizes an ontology to provide sharable knowledge in the TCM realm to achieve this. The underpinning research required the development of a three-layer architecture and an Ontology of the TCM knowledge. As TCM knowledge like all medical knowledge is not frozen in time it was important to develop an approach that would allow evolution of the Ontology when new evidence became available. In order for the system to be practically grounded it was important to work with an industry partner PuraPharm Group/HerbMiners Informatics Limited. This partnership was initiated through Professor Allan Wong and the Chairman of PuraPharm Group Mr. Abraham Chan. This led to the system being utilized in more than 20 Mobile Clinics in Hong Kong and 300 Hospitals in China. In order for these different deployments of the system to be coherent with the main core Ontology, it was necessary for us to develop an Ontology Driven Software System Generation approach.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th IFIP TC 12 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IFIP AI 2015, Held as Part of WCC 2015, in Daejeon, South Korea, in October 2015. The 13 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 36 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on artificial intelligence techniques in biomedicine, artificial intelligence for knowledge management, computational intelligence and algorithms, and intelligent decision support systems.

Inspired by Marcelo Dascal’s theory of controversies, this volume includes studies in the theory of controversies, studies of the history of controversy forms and their evolution, and case-studies of particular historical and current controversies. The purpose of this volume is to identify a taxonomy of controversies and also to sense a line of development for the phenomenon of controversies itself. At the same time, we want to ask ourselves about the impact and the spread of controversies in the contemporary world, eminently intended as a heuristic element facilitating knowledge. For all these reasons, the fundamental aim of the volume is to provide the reader with a selection of current theoretical and practical perspectives on controversies, and to offer a broad picture of the complex range of definitions, meanings and practices connected to them.

This book includes selected papers of the 6th IFIP WG 10.2 International Workshop on Software Technologies for Future Embedded and Ubiquitous Systems, SEUS 2008, held on Capri, Italy, in October 2008. The 38 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected. The papers are organized in topical sections on model-driven development; middleware; real time; quality of service and performance; applications; pervasive and mobile systems: wireless embedded systems; synthesis, verification and protection.

This double volumes LNCS 10573-10574 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Confederated International Conferences: Cooperative Information Systems, CoopIS 2017, Ontologies, Databases, and Applications of Semantics, ODBASE 2017, and Cloud and Trusted Computing, C&TC, held as part of OTM 2017 in October 2017 in Rhodes, Greece. The 61 full papers presented together with 19 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 180 submissions. The OTM program every year covers data and Web semantics, distributed objects, Web services, databases, information systems, enterprise workflow and collaboration, ubiquity, interoperability, mobility, grid and high-performance computing.
