Excerpt from The Journal of the Iron and Steel Institute, 1941, Vol. 143 The present volume contains eight papers presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute held in London on May lst, 1941 of them, one was sponsored by the Corrosion Committee, one was submitted by the Stresses in Moulds Panel of the Ingot Moulds sub-committee and one was a Report prepared by the Oxygen sub-committee, the latter two bodies being sub-committees of the Committee on the Heterogeneity of Steel Ingots. The discussion and correspondence on these papers are also included, together with the authors' replies, except in one case where, owing to illness, the author was unable to draft his reply in time for it to be printed here; it is hoped that the author's recovery will be rapid and com late, and that he will be able to comment on the correspondence fore the No. II. This landmark work of modernist literature explores the inner lives of a typical English family while vividly exploring the nature of loss and memory. Following her celebrated masterpiece Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf continues to develop her groundbreaking stream-of-consciousness technique in To the Lighthouse. Every summer, the Ramsey family returns to the Isle of Skye for a tranquil holiday, where the imposing lighthouse seems to promise everlasting constancy. But as their idyllic holiday confronts the realities of World War I, the Ramseys must also face the inescapable nature of change. A profound evocation of marriage, parenthood, aging, and grief, To the Lighthouse is regarded as one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.
