The Subjective Aspect Of The Truths In The Bible

Every basic revelation in the Bible has two aspects: the objective aspect and the subjective aspect. Both aspects are needed for the building up of the Body of Christ, which fulfills God’s eternal purpose. Seeing the truths in the Scriptures only in the objective aspect is not sufficient. For many centuries God’s enemy, Satan, has worked in a subtle way to blind God’s people from seeing the truth in its subjective aspect. This is because he realizes that once the believers enter into the subjective aspect of the truth, the Body of Christ will be produced and God’s purpose will be fulfilled. “I am burdened to show all the Lord’s children…the solid revelation concerning the subjective truths in the Bible so that whenever they hear any speaking that opposes the genuine subjective experiences in life and encourages them to care only for doctrine, they will have a solid foundation on which to stand against such speaking.”

This book is intended as an aid to believers in developing a daily time of morning revival with the Lord in His word. At the same time, it provides a limited review of the International Training for Elders and Responsible Ones held in Manila, Philippines, on October 5-7, 2023. The general subject of the training was “Living and Serving according to God’s Economy concerning the Church.” Through intimate contact with the Lord in His word, the believers can be constituted with life and truth and thereby equipped to prophesy in the meetings of the church unto the building up of the Body of Christ.

This issue of The Ministry contains a complete record of the six messages given during the Memorial Day weekend conference held in St. Paul, Minnesota, May 25-28, 2007. The general subject of the conference was "Caring for the Present Need in the Lord's Recovery," and the main burden of the conference can be summarized by the following four statements: (1) We must walk in the truth of the economy of God, realize the recovery of the Lord, and stay away from death and division. (2) We need to know the present truth, uphold the absoluteness of the truth, and be constituted with the truth for the church as the pillar and base of the truth. (3) The ground of oneness is the processed and consummated Triune God applied to our being, and the essence of the genuine oneness is life and light. (4) We must receive the Lord's mercy to be His overcomers who bring in a new revival to turn the age in the Lord's recovery by arriving at the highest peak of the divine revelation, by living the life of a God-man, and by shepherding people according to God in the vital groups for the building up of the Body of Christ. A modern reader studying biblical narratives encounters various literary approaches and ways of understanding interpretive concepts. Hence an attempt to put forward a comprehensive hermeneutical model of reading biblical narratives. Such a model should aim at a synthesis of various approaches, and show how they are interrelated. The book proposes a hermeneutical theory which uses modern approaches to literary texts for the exegesis of biblical narratives. The book discusses three spheres of the reader’s knowledge about reality: immanent, narrative, and transcendental. The move from immanent to transcendental knowledge through the mediation of narrative knowledge results from the mediatory role played by the biblical text, which refers the reader to a transcendent reality. This theory is then applied to the exegesis of Genesis 21:1-21, and involves the evaluation of the New Criticism, rhetorical criticism, structuralism and narrative analysis, reader-response criticism, the historical-critical method, as well as deconstruction. In order to satisfy the postulate of pluralism in interpretation, the hermeneutical theory draws upon a variety of ancient and modern sources such as Aristotle, T. S. Eliot, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Paul Ricœur.

The New Testament presents both the revelation and the experience of the wonderful Christ. While the Scriptures reveal Christ objectively, they also reveal Christ as a wonderful person who indwells the believers for their subjective experience. After passing through many steps to accomplish God's salvation, Christ comes into the believers to be their life and person within.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1988, volume 3, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from April 18 through September 18, 1988. In the first few days of April Brother Lee visited San Jose, California, for two days, and in the second week of April he flew to Taipei, Taiwan, and remained there until early June. He returned to Anaheim, California, and remained there through the third week of July. In the remaining days of July he visited a number of cities in the California Bay Area, including Berkeley, Hayward, San Jose, Los Altos, and San Francisco. In early August he visited Spokane, Washington, and at the end of August he visited Seattle, Washington. In the last few days of August he visited Alhambra, California, and in September he traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, and Atlanta, Georgia. Chapters 2 and 3 were included as chapters 4 and 5 in Elders' Training, Book 9: The Eldership and the God-ordained Way (1) and also appear in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1986, volume 3, in a section with the same title. 4. These messages were translated from Chinese and are included in this volume under the title The Apostles' Relationship with the Churches and Their Perfecting of the Saints. 8. A message given in San Jose, California, on July 27. This message is included in this volume under the title The Need for Revival in the Lord's Recovery through Prayer. 9. Six messages given in Los Altos, San Jose, and San Francisco, California, on July 27 through 31. These messages are included in this volume under the title Building Up the Body in Oneness.
